Someone Turned Off the InterTubes
by Simon injust a heads-up in case we disappear too, there's a massive ddos attack happening that has knocked a lot of major sites offline:.
http://gizmodo.com/this-is-probably-why-half-the-internet-shut-down-today-1788062835.
things like this can have knock-on effects as other systems become overloaded, so far we seem ok so fingers crossed we stay that way..

I don't think I will be able to escape the JWs ...
by nevaagain ini know i will get a lot of backslash on this forum for saying this, but as it looks like, i won't ever be able to escape the jws.
i have been a born in, third generation jw and awoken in one way or another (i joined this forum 15 years ago) for a very long time.
but i have adapted to the jw lifestyle to a point where it does not bother me anymore.

nevaagain,
So what I am trying to say is, I woulnd't live any different as a worldly person.
Don't mean to be rude but how could you live with yourself if you were to convert a 'worldly' person to your religion? Would your conscience not feel guilty for introducing him/her into a destructive cult?

Genital Warts Because our Ancestors were Banging Neanderthals
by cofty inresearchers have found evidence that modern genital warts – otherwise known as the human papillomavirus (hpv) – were sexually transmitted to homo sapiens after our ancestors slept with neanderthals and denisovans roughly around 100,000 years ago.....

A 100,000 years ago? I'm a little confused. Although we started migrating 60,000 years ago from Africa it wasn't until about 45,000 years ago that our species colonized Europe where Neandertals lived (There is no evidence of them elsewhere). There may have been other "archaic" species in Africa who, when we began to expand in and out of the continent, might have infected us.
Yet again, we might have caught it from Neandertals in the ever changing border between our two populations (?).

Week 16 Since My Disfellowshipping - Update
by pale.emperor inhi guys.
i could really do with you advice regarding my current state since being disfellowshipped 16 weeks ago.. since being given the boot (i did try to fade but it failed) ive been on a rollacoaster of emotions.
lately im getting frequent headaches, tiredness and i have about 3 or 4 thoughts running through my mind at all times.. im passed the sadness phase of discovering it's a cult.

pale.emperor,
What i'd like to know is, is there a list of phases one goes through before they're "recovered" from this cult?
It's probably different with everyone but I went through the following:
- Rage, at the fact that I had been duped.
- Later on my rage settled down but I still had resentment.
- Support in a "phone tree" of ex-JWs (This was in the 1980s before the internet).
- Eventually I outgrew my negative emotions and had become curious in an objective manner on their past history.

Anybody else having trouble walking away?
by JW-Matrix inok...so i'm a 19 year old fifth generation jw.
mentality, i've been out of the "truth" since i was 16(woke up after i was baptized ironically), but on the outside i'm a model jw.
my parents are really devoted, my grandparents are super devoted, and so are my ants and uncles.

...I intend to fade out after college...
If you're going to college it will consume more time than you will have for the meetings. Going to college should be the beginning of your fade not afterwards. You can always excuse yourself by saying that your studies are overwhelming you.
By the way, welcome to the forum.

IF the elder were paid, how would it change the organization???
by James Mixon inthere would be lot more brothers reaching out that's for sure.....
-
Village Idiot
It would not be practical for JWs to pay several elders. The ratio of elders to congregation members is too high to be affordable to the rank and file. However, if a single elder where to be paid he could dedicate himself full time to the congregation while being supported by voluntary ministerial servants. The reason they have so many elders in a congregation except for one is because they all have full time jobs and can only handle a limited portion of the work needed to run it.

An old Kingdom hall now a church?
by HereIgo inhave any of you heard of anything like this.
i remember an ex jw from ohio taking video of a former kingdom hall that is now a church.
apparently the society sold it to the church.
-
Village Idiot
You cannot step into a church without being disfellowshipped but they can sell your kingdom hall to one.
I hope the church's congregation exorcises the demons in the KH.

Jehovah's Witnesses ARE Christians, why do so many ex JW's deny this?
by nicolaou injehovah's witnesses accept jesus as christ, the son of god.
they try, in their own way, to live by his teachings and imitate him.
they pray, read the bible and meet together regularly for worship.. i won't minimise any of the harm and damage they cause but for the life of me, i can't see how anyone can credibly deny that they are christians.. why do so many former jws have a problem with this?
-
Village Idiot
OrphanCrow,
But they don't accept that Jesus is God.
That is the defining difference between JWs and mainstream Christianity
Arians could be Christians regardless of their view that Christ is in submission to God.
Also, one can pick one unique teaching amongst some Christian religions, like Adventists, that is different from "mainstream Christianity". Does that make the unique religion non-Christian? Who gets to define?
